Natural Sounds Elevate Mood

This is a film that we made at Marbles Farm. Natural sounds like birds playing and squirrels chirping are common in our outdoor experience environment. Here is what the Wall Street Journal had to say about natural sounds:

Psychologists are also discovering that natural sounds—from the wind rustling the trees to the warble of songbirds—have benefits for humans, and can lower stress, elevate mood, boost cognitive abilities and perhaps enhance healing.

The Journal continued by saying that office workers who listened to the sound of flowing water performed better at work and felt more positive about their surroundings. An expert stated that workers “were more patient and avoided more errors. Nature sounds can have a restorative effect on our cognitive abilities.” WSJ

The way to truly benefit from natural sounds is to spend time outdoors in a natural habitat. Marbles Farm is located on 1.5 acres of natural green space. It has about 50 mature trees that block man-made sounds and provide living space for birds, squirrels, marmots, and other natural sound producing creatures. Our students will spend time outdoors everyday in this environment.
